TREE and SHRUB
Care Sheet
Dormant
bare root trees are shipped with all dirt washed off of the roots and little or
no leaves. Bare root trees should be planted
immediately, even if it is still cold outside. If this is not possible keep trees cool and
damp and plant within 2 - 3 days.
1.
Soak the roots in water for 1 - 2 hours prior to planting. Do not let the roots dry out.
2.
Dig a hole twice the size of the trees root
depth.
3.
Fill half way with loose soil. A good topsoil will work well.
4.
Place tree so the crown, (where the trunk meets the roots) is at the
ground level or slightly below. Fill with loose topsoil and tamp down the
ground.
5.
Water tree thoroughly.
IMPORTANT
Bare
root trees are an economical way of purchasing an ornamental tree,
however they do require some care in the first year.
Trees should be watered
during any dry period. (7 days or more without rain). This is very important!!
Fertilizer
is not needed until at least 6 months from planting date, and even then
fertilize lightly. Fertilizers can harm or
kill a young tree if not properly applied.
In
areas where there are a lot of deer, protect the tree in fall and winter with a
small fence or plastic tree trunk guard.
With proper care your tree should last many years.
Specific
care information for your tree or shrub can be found at

expressed or implied.
